"I’ve spoken to Matthew [Vaughn] about ideas, but I can’t tell you what they are because they may or may not be the story. One thing I liked about our one was that it was different from the other three films…Magneto wasn’t a bad guy, we were friends. We’re now set up to go back to the way the other movies are, so we’ve got to try to be cleverer than that."
James McAvoy on a potential X-Men: First Class sequel
Very much agreed; there needs to be more depth to Charles and Erik’s interactions than “we are enemies now.” I’d love to see them play with the dynamics of that friendship by creating a scenario where they’re forced to work together again, or where Erik ends up saving Charles’s life in some way, in contrast with First Class. In any case, I look forward to the day when I no longer have to write “potential” in front of “sequel” regarding this movie!
I’ve already done my part to support a sequel by going to Best Buy for my copy of First Class, and since that required getting dressed and leaving the house, you know I meant business. You can also pick it up on Amazon, where it looks like they’re offering free shipping for a limited time (First Class Friday, perhaps?).
In honor of this long-awaited day, I’m going to make cupcakeshere is a link to my favorite review* of the film.
*Just as a warning, while that review is well-written and explores a very legitimate analysis of the film, it’s also pretty fangirl-ish, for lack of better term.
This is yet another behind-the-scenes feature from the upcoming X-Men: First Class Blu-Ray, where we get to learn about the chain of events that lead to this film being head-explodingly awesome. I loved hearing about the evolution of the script into a story that centered on Erik and Charles’s friendship, because that’s absolutely what carried the film and took it from good to great. I’m pretty much convinced that Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn are geniuses.
For several more of these behind-the-scenes features, head over to this Youtube channel. ComicBookMovie.com seems to think that these are ALL the behind-the-scenes special features that will be included on the Blu-Ray, which is highly likely, but time will tell. Come on, Friday!
Here we have another cool special feature from X-Men: First Class, which hits DVD and Blu-Ray THIS FRIDAY (yay!).
This time they’re discussing setting the film in the 60s and where they drew inspiration for Erik and Charles’s wardrobes. Fun stuff!
And as much as I’m dying for sequel confirmation, clips like this also make me realize how much I want Matthew Vaughn to stay on board to direct that hypothetical sequel. If news came out and any other director was attached… I wouldn’t even know if I was allowed to be excited! I know he said he had “ideas” for a possible sequel, though, so hopefully that means I’m just being paranoid.
